Renaissance Person/Polymath

A polymath can take the skills that she or he has learned and combine them in new ways quickly to master new fields. 

On the other hand, a specialist whose fields becomes obsolete would likely take much more time to adapt to the change and have to start back at the beginning.

The period from the 14th century to the 17th century in Europe is popularly called Renaissance, and it marked a rebirth or revival of classical learning and wisdom. 

The wave of renaissance touched upon many areas of European civilization, particularly the areas of art, religion, literature...

Leonardo Da Vinci had a seemingly endless assemblage of concepts and ideas, all of which were unrelated, and scattered.

The 'Renaissance Man' is a term coined from his achievements. The term is now used for people who follow their curiosity and not their specialisation.
