Art Therapy (as well as music therapy) lights up certain areas of the brain that may not otherwise be active. It is relaxing, takes the brains focus away from problems and rumination, and helps one to express emotion.
Aa a student "art therapist" - that is a whole different aspect of therapy. But making art, coloring, collage, listening to soothing music, crafts, knitting, etc. - the Process of doing these things is therapuetic for most people. So is fishing, sitting outside - whatever you enjoy - brings comfort and relaxation and gets the brain focused on something enjoyable.
